Philadelphia, PA (June 29th, 2010) - Following on the heels of its popular spirit, ROOT, Art in the Age is pleased to announce its next organic spirit, SNAP. (Its name is taken from the Pennsylvania Dutch cookie known as a 'ginger snap'). Like ROOT, SNAP is 80 proof and certified organic. The debut of SNAP signifies the continuation of the movement started by ROOT toward innovation and quality in small-batch spirits production.
The formula for SNAP is based on the Pennsylvania Dutch recipe for ‘lebkuchen’, or ginger snap. 'Lebkuchen' dates back to the late 1600s, when German Anabapists, seeking freedom from state-mandated religion, settled in present-day Pennsylvania. These original colonists were farmers who used hearty blackstrap molasses to sweeten their baked goods and meals, since refined sugar was not readily available. Neighboring British colonists considered this practice to be crude and unsophisticated, but today we know otherwise. Blackstrap molasses retains vital mineral complexes and antioxidants that are later stripped away during the white sugar refining process. The full-bodied, earthy flavor of molasses is unlike any other sweetener. Although the Pennsylvania Dutch did not distill 'lebkuchen', Art in the Age has succeeded in reviving this nostalgic recipe and fully realizing its potential as a unique distilled product.
SNAP is a 100% certified organic spirit. A neutral distillate derived from pure cane sugar constitutes its backbone, and an array of organic ingredient infusions like cinnamon, cloves, rooibos tea and fresh ginger comprise its complex taste profile. All botanicals are painstakingly selected and tested for purity, and the final liquor is distilled in limited batches to ensure maximum quality.
SNAP is not a sickly sweet liqueur or a flavored vodka, markedly different from other ginger-infused spirits on the market. It uncorks to a lively aroma of brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla, with the immediate taste of molasses accompanied by a spicy and buttery mouth feel. The finish is long, with lingering notes of fresh ginger.
