QUAKER CITY MERCANTILE CONNECTS THE LEGENDARY STEINSKI WITH NICHOLS AND MAY:
CREATES REMIXED NARRAGANSETT BEER RADIO SPOTS
Philadelphia, PA- On Memorial Day Weekend, 2009 Quaker City Mercantile (formerly Gyro Worldwide) launched a comprehensive brand reinvigoration campaign for New England's classic Narragansett beer, which includes a revamped website (http://www.narragansettbeer.com), collateral, including surfboards and airplane banners, radio spots, and TV, as well as an extensive array of ‘Gansett gear!
Maintaining the original, iconic, “Hi Neighbor” slogan, radio spots were “re-mixed” by world renown producer Steinski, who used original ’Gansett radio spots from the 1950s and 1960s. These original spots featured Mike Nichols and Elaine May, a famous comedy duo that helped to create many great ‘Gansett Commercials in the 1950s. Since QCM takes great pride in those spots and the heritage of the brand, we thought it would be cool to revive the spots…with a new twist!
To accomplish this, QCM collaborated with sound collage artist, Steinski, who essentially invented the concept of the “mash-up” back in the 1980s (Girl Talk and DJ Shadow cite him as a major influence). The result is NOT just radio spots, but aural experiences.
In addition to the vintage re-mixes, additional spots were produced by Steinski using sound bites of interviews, with Narragansett’s owner, Mark Hellendrung.
To hear the new Steinski versions, which sample the Nichols and May original, as well as the radio spots featuring interview samples with owner Mark Hellendrung, visit http://www.pr.gyroworldwide.com.
QCM is proud to be a part of bringing the heritage brand of Narragansett into the future, while preserving their rich history.
